Bitcoin mining firm Bitdeer has announced its “SEAL04” chip, set to power in the recently rolled out Sealminer rig. According to the company’s technology roadmap, the chip will be launched in May 2025 and is expected to attain energy efficiency of 5 J/TH (joules per terahash).

Bitdeer says the released roadmap is intended to improve transparency in Bitcoin mining, providing data related to purchasing behavior, inventory, and machine capabilities.

The Fourth-Generation Sealminer Mining Machine

The fourth-generation Sealminer will be available for sale from September next year. According to Bitdeer, the SEAL04 chip that will power the mining machine will keep the power consumption of the equipment below the average of 28 J/TH.

Over the years, Bitcoin miners have been criticized for consuming massive amounts of power, with several countries banning mining companies from carrying out their operations. Now, these miners are looking for ways to ensure their Bitcoin mining processes consume less power.

That said, the introduction of the SEAL04 chip in Sealminer could mark a huge milestone in the crypto mining sector. Bitdeer promises that its product will enhance mining performance while minimizing power consumption, thus lowering operating costs.

Bitdeer’s Previous Chip

At the start of March 2024, Bitdeer revealed that it had successfully tested the SEAL01 chip, which achieved a power efficiency of 19 J/TH. According to the mining firm, the chip was used to power the Sealminer AI machine.

For starters, chips are vital hardware components of mining machines and are designed to find solutions to complex mathematical problems to validate on-chain transactions.

Tether Invests in Bitdeer

The SEAL04 announcement comes less than ten days after stablecoin issuer Tether agreed a deal with Bitdeer to buy $150 million worth of the miner’s shares. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino says Bitdeer has a huge potential to be an industry leader due to its advanced technologies.

Meanwhile, Bitdeer recently announced that it had entered a deal with investment company Druk Holdings to build an eco-friendly crypto mining farm in Bhutan. The company says the move shows its commitment to ensuring its mining process is environmentally friendly.
